Katie Blackwell - "The Figure in Oil"

The MHA March program was all about oils. Our speaker was Katie Blackwell, manager of Cheap Joe’s and accomplished oil painter. She is a superb artist who has been painting since she was fifteen. Her work extends from landscapes to portraiture. Her long time focus on the human face and form has evolved into a series of fantasy portraits she calls "Melty People".
Katie discussed her materials and techniques and demonstrated the use of light and shadows in figures, and the best colors to use to create the biggest impact on the viewer. Freebies and a door prize from Cheap Joe's were also part of the evening's program.
