Phil Garrett, Golden Artist Colors

January's guest artist was Phil Garrett from the Golden Artist Colors. The Golden lecture/demo was a free educational presentation on acrylic paints, gels and mediums: an advanced technical explanation of acrylics, and their inherent possibilities. It covered information about the different types of pigments, different viscosities and types of paints, grounds and color mixing. Various gels and mediums were demonstrated.
We learned how to extend paint to save money and how to mix paints with gels to create unique textural surfaces. Techniques for the use of iridescent and metallic paints were be shown. The lecture covered lightfastness for pigments, proper acrylic priming techniques, and health and safety concerns.
